AI that helps you write, not AI that writes for you

3 min read · Updated 20 Oct 2026

Most “AI writing” tools want to write your book for you: type a prompt, get a chapter. We don’t build that, and we don’t want to. Here’s what Storywriting’s AI does, what it will never do, and why.

Why we don’t like AI that writes for you

A story is worth reading because a person chose every word of it: the rhythm of a sentence, the detail nobody else would have noticed, the line that’s slightly wrong on purpose. Generated prose smooths all of that away. It tends to sound like everything else, because it is built from everything else.

There’s a second cost. Writing is how you find out what your story is. If a machine writes the scene, you skip the part where you discover what the scene is about. You end up with pages, but not with your book.

Why we do like AI as a tool

Some parts of writing aren’t creative at all: a typo at two in the morning, a missing comma, “their” instead of “there”, a sentence where the verb no longer agrees after you rewrote half of it. That’s where a careful tool helps, the way a good copy-editor does: it fixes mistakes and leaves your voice alone.

She recieved received the letter to late too late, and the sea had already taken the ship.

The sentence is still yours. Only the mistakes are gone.

What the AI in Storywriting does

  • Auto-correct checks each paragraph after you pause or finish it, and fixes spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Fix grammar does the same for a whole story or screenplay at once, or for any text field, when you ask for it.
  • It corrects your text in the language you write in, following that language’s own rules, and never translates it into another one.
  • Translate makes a first version of your story in another language, which you then edit as your own.

How it keeps your style

  • It changes as little as possible: mistakes, not choices. Your words, your sentence lengths and your rhythm stay as they are.
  • Invented words, names and dialects are yours: add a word to your dictionary (right-click it) and it is never changed again.
  • Right-click any passage and choose Never auto-correct this text to protect a line that’s wrong on purpose.
  • Before Fix grammar changes a whole story, a version is saved in the version history, so you can always go back.

What it will never do

  • Write a scene, a chapter or a line of dialogue for you.
  • Suggest plot twists, endings or “improvements” to your story.
  • Rewrite your sentences in a different style.
  • Add a single idea that isn’t yours.

Your writing stays yours

When you use auto-correct, Fix grammar or translation, only the text being corrected is sent to our AI provider, and the result comes straight back. We don’t keep a separate copy of it, and we don’t use your writing to train AI models. More details are in our privacy policy.
